LeMieux ProSport Grafter Brushing Boots Review

First Impressions

LeMieux have built a serious reputation in the equestrian world over the last few years, and the ProSport Grafter Brushing Boots are one of their most popular products. When they arrived, the build quality was immediately obvious — the outer shell is a tough PU material that feels like it could take a proper knock, while the inner lining is a soft, breathable neoprene that moulds nicely to the leg.

The strike pad is substantial without being bulky, and the three hook-and-loop straps feel secure and well-stitched. They come in a satisfying range of colours, but I went with classic black for testing — mainly because I know my horse would have them looking like a disaster within a week in anything lighter.

Performance in the Arena and Field

I used these boots for six weeks across a mix of flatwork, jumping, and cross-country schooling. The protection is excellent — my horse brushes quite badly behind, and these boots absorbed repeated strikes without shifting or bunching. The strike pad sits in exactly the right position and stays put, even during fast work.

What really impressed me was how cool the legs stayed. The neoprene inner is designed to allow airflow, and even after an hour of jumping in warm weather, there was no excessive heat build-up when I removed them. Some boots I’ve used in the past have left the legs noticeably hot and sweaty — these didn’t.

The hook-and-loop closures are quick and easy to fasten, which sounds like a small thing but matters when you’re tacking up in a rush. They held firm throughout every session — no slipping, no readjusting needed.

Fit & Sizing

I ordered a Large for my 16.2hh TB and they fit well. They’re available in Medium and Large only, which is the one area I think LeMieux could improve — some horses fall awkwardly between the two sizes, and a Medium/Large option would be welcome. That said, the Large fit my horse with room for adjustment on the straps.

The anatomical shape is good. They contour around the fetlock without pinching and sit flush against the cannon bone. No rubbing after six weeks of regular use.

Durability

After six weeks, the boots are still in great shape. There’s one minor issue — the stitching on one of the hook-and-loop straps has started to fray slightly. It’s not affecting function yet, but it’s something to keep an eye on. Everything else — the outer shell, the strike pad, the neoprene lining — looks as good as new.

They clean up easily with a sponge and warm water. The neoprene dries quickly, which is a bonus for back-to-back days.

Final Thoughts

The LeMieux ProSport Grafter Brushing Boots deliver exactly what you’d expect from LeMieux — reliable protection, smart design, and solid build quality at a fair price. At under £35, they’re excellent value and I’d happily recommend them for everything from schooling to cross-country. The minor stitching concern doesn’t change the fact that these are one of the best brushing boots I’ve tested at this price point.
